Calmare® Scrambler Therapy

What is Calmare® Scrambler Therapy?

The Calmare® Scrambler Therapy device is a state-of-the-art U.S. FDA 510(k)-cleared and European CE mark-certified medical device specifically designed for the non-invasive treatment of chronic neuropathic and oncology pain. Treatment using the Calmare® Scrambler Therapy device avoids the harmful, potentially fatal side effects, and addictive properties linked to narcotic painkillers.

Our center is proud to offer this innovative and cutting-edge therapy to patients seeking an alternative to conventional pain management methods. Calmare® Scrambler Therapy utilizes advanced technology to deliver controlled electrical impulses that work by modulating the pain signals in the nervous system. This modulation helps to retrain the brain's perception of pain and provides effective relief for individuals suffering from chronic neuropathic and oncology-related pain conditions.

136 people die every day from opioid prescription painkillers - more deaths than heroin and cocaine (Nationa Center for drug Abuse Statistics). By choosing Calmare® Scrambler Therapy, patients can regain control over their lives and improve their overall well-being. The non-invasive nature of this treatment option means it is gentle, safe, and free from addiction risks. Say goodbye to the limitations of narcotic painkillers and embrace a holistic approach to pain management that offers long-lasting relief.

The Calmare® Scrambler Therapy device was invented in Italy at the University of Rome by Professor Giuseppe Marineo, a biophysicist. The Calmare® Scrambler Therapy device has been used to successfully treat over 4,000 patients worldwide, where it has been shown to be effective in treating neuropathic and oncologic pain. Conditions treated include: Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) formally known Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Sciatica, Failed Back Surgery, Failed neck Surgery, Chemotherapy peripheral Neuropathy, Diabetes and Non-Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, Phantom Limb Pain, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Oncology Pain Resistant to Drug Treatment (cancer pancreatic, breast, bladder, lung, prostate, colon, rectal, kidney, ovarian, cervical, liver, uterine), Post surgery Nerve Lesion Neuropathy, Brachial Plexus Neuropathy, Post Herpetic Neuropathy, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, Fibromyalgia, Pudendal Neuropathy and Vulvodynia.

Currently in the United States Calmare® Scrambler Therapy is being used at the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, MD Anderson, Calmare® trained physicians in clinical settings and in the United States Military.

The device, with a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach, uses a multi-processor able to simultaneously treat multiple pain areas by applying surface electrodes to the skin. The device creates synthetically generated strings of action potentials to travel through the central nervous system via the C fibers. These are the actual pain fibers and the scramble the pain signal that is on its way up to the brain with an input of non-pain strings of action potentials. A no-pain signal which becomes the dominant signal received by the brain, thus overriding the pain signal, and providing immediate pain relief, ongoing pain control and no side effects for the patient. This is a total break from the classic gate control theory that we’ve been using over the last 50 years to treat chronic pain.

This MC58 device has 5 independent channels, disposable surface electrodes, independent output intensity on each channel.

The device was designed for cutaneous electrostimulation based on proprietary hardware and software designed to reduce pain. It seeks to relieve pain by providing “no-pain” information via cutaneous nerves to block the effect of pain information. The “no-pain” signal becomes the dominant signal received by the brain by affecting the C fibers, unlike conventional electro-analgesia like TENs units affects the A-beta fibers.

Current stimulation is very low at peaks of 5.5 mA where TENs Unit is very high at 80-120Hz.

In honor of the technology's Italian inventor, CTI chose to call this medical device "Calmare". Translated from Italian, "calmare" means "to soothe or ease." Treatment utilizing the Calmare® Scrambler Therapy device eases the suffering that patients endure from debilitating pain.

Who does it Benefit?
